Lets Live Once Again!

Have you ever observed any miracles on the earth? If no, then you might have never been to Lahore Speech and Language School. The school is a non-profit organization working harder and harder to make the Deaf children meet the challenges of daily life without any hindrance.

The organization was founded on August 11, 2008 by Pakistan's number 1 speech therapist namely Mrs. Salma Iftikhar. Her daughter was also born as a deaf and dumb child but Mrs. Salma never welcomed any sort of negativity in her mind. She always had a thought that every deaf child has a tongue in his mouth but he never got a chance to speak with it due to the deafness of ears. Thus, her research made into a success and she trained her own daughter Zara Hussain through speech therapy to talk. The miracle showed its existence and Zara started talking like a normal person. 

Zara Hussain is currently working as the director of Lahore Speech and Language School. She is also teaching at John Hopkins. She is leading a successful married life in Newyork. Her aim of life is to make all other children like her to speak and for that matter she is working very hard. She often visits Pakistan  and tends to go to different universities and other educational institutes where she gathers deaf community and train them at LSLS. 

The organization contains a soft corner especially for the ones who can't afford this training. A number of such students and availing the opportunity of free education. 

LSLS follows a program called RSTM where R stands for Responsibility, S stands for Self advocacy, T stands for technology and M stands for Manners. According to Mrs. Salma Iftikhar, this formula of RSTM is the base of a human life. The person who has learnt all these principles and also lives a life according to it is living a perfect life. Thus, LSLS is struggling to build the basic foundation of deaf children so that they can lead a successful life ahead. 

When the students of LSLS were asked about there experience there, they expressed the lively feelings of their hearts in complete and understandable language like a normal person. A student of class 4th, named Naima Iqbal said, "I love to come to school because the school teaches very useful subjects like RSTM, Drama, Speech Therapy and Narrative Islam. Here every student is taught to speak." Another student of class 5th expressed his views as, "I really like the school because teaching method is really good. All teachers are hardworking. Now! I can talk to everyone." The enthusiasm with which they were talking was showing that how much positivism they are getting as a result of this education. 

When we talked to a few of the trainers there, they said that they are working here because they wanted to devote their lives for deaf children and they are glad that here they can see them speaking not only learning sign language.

The organization also promotes creativity in every aspect of education which helps the students of LSLS to indulge themselves more and more in learning process. Teachers of LSLS believe that students learn more from creativity than anything else. Moreover, Co-curricular activities are made an important part of their study which will help them face the world in future. It not only encourages them for their speaking and communication skills but also acts as a great source of gaining confidence.

Pakistan is a country rich with every sort of talent but unfortunately, such intellectuals are needed who can better help them in their recognition in the society. If we look around, we can say it without any doubt that these deaf children will work with more sincerity for the good will of the country than the normal persons and for that good deed, the credit will always remain with Mrs. Salma Iftikhar and Zara Hussain, who must be recognized as the real heroes of Pakistan.

Lahore Speech and Language School- Not Less Than A Miracle!

Lahore Speech and Language School, a non-profit organization, founded on August 11, 2008, is working for the deaf and dumb children to help them in exploring their voice. The chairperson Salma Iftikhar is Pakistan's number 1 speech therapist who is also well- known for the treatment of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.

 The idea of speech therapy clicked in Mrs. Salma Iftikhar's mind when a deaf and dumb girl was born in her home. She was none other than her own daughter Zara Hussain. Her birth made Mrs. Salma feel the pain of those parents whose children were unable to talk like hers. We all know the proverb very well that "Necessity is the mother of invention" and thus she started her research on How to train deaf and dumb children to speak. She always believed that a child who is born deaf and dumb has a tongue in his mouth but unfortunately, due to the deafness, they never get a chance of learning how to speak. The way she felt the pain made her efforts successful and she started the speech therapy from her home. The miraculous results made her feel proud of herself and also it proved that nothing is impossible in the world. Every problem comes with a solution. Mrs. Salma says, " I feel its my duty to give a voice to the Deaf Children so that they can communicate with the world." Her success lead her to think about other deaf children who must be living a life away from the outside world of normal people. Thus, these concerns created the foundation of "Lahore Speech and Language School" which was especially initiated for the special kids. One after the other, parents trustingly sent their children with high hopes that one day, their kids will also be able to speak like Zara Hussain; and it happened.

All of us know that the old method practiced for deaf and dumb was sign language for which a person was needed to understand it too, thus it was a training not only for deaf children but their families were also trained to understand it. Mrs. Salma just refused and disliked the technique and with all her struggle, she found the right way which seemed impossible initially. But her beliefs were so strong and she had a great trust in her strong determination... She did it!

Zara Hussain, daughter of Mrs. Salma Iftikhar is now leading a normal life with her husband in Newyork. She is a PhD and is working as a director of Lahore Speech and Language School and is not less than a back bone for the institute. She is also teaching in John Hopkins for  Her determination and missions are even stronger to hold the hands of children like her and make them reach their destinations without any hurdles.

The organization follows the technique of RSTM, R for Responsibility, S for Self advocacy, T for Technology and M for Manners. Mrs. Salma believes that these are the basic principles through which we can lead a good life.

Zara Hussain hopes that one day, Pakistan will glow on the map of the world due to the heroes of LSLS. She is working hard to achieve the goals which were planned by her Mother.
